One of the main thrusts of the policy on care in the community is that elderly people themselves don’t want to enter residential care. But recently more and more elderly people have been entering private residential care with the help of income support.

 

Surveys show that over 50% of elderly people wouldn’t even consider the idea of residential care but on the other hand, over 30% of them would consider that idea. It shows that the idea of residential care isn’t so abhorrent as it’s been thought. Women are more likely to consider residential care than men, of whom only just over one fifth said they would consider that idea.
