Usually the elderly decide to enter residential care because of illness or if anything happens to their carers. The elderly point such disadvantages of the residential care:

-          you are not independent anymore

-          you are watched over all day

-          you are fed when they want

-          you cannot lead your life as you want to

-          you cannot make your own decisions

 

When asked elderly people living with a spouse or a younger carer tend to say that they prefer to stay where they are and be looked after by their carers. Others declare they would rather go and live with their relatives than enter residential care. Some don’t consider residential care because they can’t take their pet.
